FWB were delighted to have advised the iconic SEC in Glasgow on their appointment of Dominic McKay as CEO to succeed Peter Duthie.
The SEC is one of the UK’s premier event destinations, one of the busiest entertainment venues in the UK outside London and ranks among the top arenas globally, often compared to The O2 in London and Manchester’s AO Arena. Hosting world-class concerts, sporting events, and global conferences, the SEC has welcomed some of the biggest names in entertainment, from Beyoncé and Taylor Swift to UFC and WWE events. It has also played a critical role in major international summits, including COP26, further elevating Glasgow’s global profile. The SEC is a significant economic driver, contributing an estimated £468 million in expenditure to Glasgow alone.
McKay, who will officially join the SEC in May, is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in the sports and entertainment sectors including his current role as Executive Chairman of European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) in Switzerland. McKay’s appointment comes as the SEC celebrates its 40th anniversary and embarks on an ambitious growth plan to maximise its current venues, explore sustainable expansion opportunities and build on the great work that the SEC team have delivered to date.
With a rich background that includes Scottish Rugby, McKay brings a wealth of strategic, commercial, and operational expertise and his tenure at Scottish Rugby saw him transform the organisation into a modern, consumer-focused entity, doubling its commercial revenues and attracting major events and performers.
SEC Chair Morag McNeill expressed enthusiasm about McKay’s appointment, highlighting his proven track record of delivering growth and enhancing customer experience. McKay’s strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Glasgow City Council, are expected to be instrumental in driving the SEC’s future success.
2025 is set to be an exciting year for the SEC, with high-profile events and performances lined up, including shows by Sabrina Carpenter, Iron Maiden, Kylie, and Billie Eilish at the OVO Hydro and we wish Dom and everyone at the SEC every continued success.
Commenting on the appointment, Ailsa Sutherland noted: It was a privilege to advise on the SEC CEO appointment and we wish the team, and Dom, all the best in the next phase for the business.
