Operations Director, Northern
About the role
Elgin
Robertson Construction is enjoying a period of rapid and sustained growth. To support this the business has been modernising and upgrading its systems and processes and driving cultural change towards an increasingly modern environment. In 2016 The Northern Business achieved a turnover of £55m, producing a profit of £5m.
The new Operations Director will lead a total headcount of 50 people, managed via a direct reporting team of five Operations Managers, with PMs and Site Managers under them. The team is generally of relatively long tenure with high loyalty and a hard working culture of honesty and openness. Team members are typically positive in outlook and have a hunger to lead by example and continue to improve. Over the past six months the team has undergone a significant cultural shift which has been welcomed and, for example, continuous training opportunities (temporary works, NEC3, Planning & BIM 360 Field etc.) have been implemented.
As the business operates across a large geographical area (via offices in Elgin, Inverness and Fort William) and has many different concurrent projects, it is important that the next Operations Director is able to manage their time effectively, identifying which projects require the most support and how best to invest their time. A flexible style and high emotional intelligence will be crucial to connect effectively with the teams. It would be preferred that the next Operations Director is from (or returning to) the local area as this will help them significantly, however candidates coming from other regions will be considered, as long as they are prepared to locate themselves in the area.
This is a very attractive opportunity for an ambitious Operations Director who is on an upward career trajectory and who wishes to build a long term career in a growing business.
