About Lindsays

At Lindsays, we have been delivering trusted legal services since 1815, when cousins Frederick Fothringham and John Lindsay founded the firm in Edinburgh. Establishing their practice at 80 George Street, they built a legacy of excellence and integrity that continues to define us today. Over two centuries later, the firm proudly retains the Lindsay name.

From our earliest days, we have served notable clients, relationships that have endured across generations. While their needs have evolved, our commitment to exceptional service remains steadfast. What began as a partnership of two has grown to a firm of 51 partners, offering comprehensive legal services to businesses, families, and individuals.

With major offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Perth, and Crieff, we serve clients across Scotland and internationally, from Canada and China to Australia and Ukraine. While much has changed, our core values endure: listening to our clients, understanding their needs, and delivering flexible, approachable, and high-quality service—principles that have guided us for over 200 years.

We are now seeking an accomplished Head of Finance to join our dynamic team and play a key role in the continued growth and evolution of our firm. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will ensure compliance with the Law Society of Scotland’s guidelines, maintain robust financial controls, and provide strategic financial advice to the Board and Partnership. Your expertise will shape the firm’s financial strategy, enhance efficiency, and support our long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial functions, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and alignment with the firm’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide high-quality management information and expert financial guidance to support decision-making.
  • Manage and develop the Cashroom team, ensuring adherence to Law Society regulations and optimal operational performance.
  • Prepare and present annual financial statements, budgets, and partnership accounts.
  • Collaborate with department heads and fee earners to improve financial outcomes, including debt reduction and enhanced profitability.
  • Lead firm-wide projects to drive efficiency and innovation across all functions.
  • Supervise the outsourced IT function to ensure it supports the firm’s operational needs

Person Specifications

We are looking for a degree-qualified professional with a recognised finance qualification (e.g., CA or equivalent) and a strong leadership track record.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate a small team effectively.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated success in managing projects and delivering results on time.
  • Collaboration: Skilled in building positive relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous and forward-thinking, with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Strong influencing and communication skills, with a hands-on and proactive approach to leadership.
