DC Thomson now wishes to add to the existing strength of the leadership team with the appointment of a Head of Estates to join the business on a part time basis of three days per week. The Head of Estates will be required to manage and optimise the portfolio of circa 30 properties across the estate, based largely in the UK with one property in the US.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing fit-outs and refurbishment works, mainly managing the appointment of and advice received from external specialists such as architects, Quantity Surveyors and M&E Engineers.
  • Identify strategic priorities and create a culture of sound financial management, particularly in the calculation of rent, rates and landlord’s service charges, and the efficient delivery of works.
  • Managing the strategic property activity, largely involving lease events with known dates and the national rating revaluation set for April 2023.
  • Ensuring safe and efficient operations of all buildings to deliver upon the business, community and sustainability objectives of DC Thomson.

The Head of Estates will be an experienced property professional and qualified Chartered Surveyor, with experience in the calculation and review of land and property rates, excellent commercial acumen and somebody who is comfortable in working autonomously and making decisions. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong track record in managing and operating a portfolio of this size with excellent financial, administrative and planning skills.
