The Company
Zero Waste Scotland is Scotland's circular economy expert. They are a not-for-profit environmental organisation funded by the Scottish Government. They exist to lead Scotland to use products and resources more responsibly, focusing on where they can have the greatest effect on reducing climate change together through responsible consumption, responsible production, and maximising value through waste. Using evidence and insight, their goal is to inform policy and motivate individuals and businesses to embrace the environmental, economic, and social benefits of a circular economy.
The Role
The Head of Business Engagement will be a pioneering, collaborative, focused and authentic leader who is inspired by the ZWS mission, passionate about their vision and committed to delivering the Corporate Plan. They will role model behaviours that underpin ZWS values. They will drive high performance, colleague development and staff engagement.
The role will work to ensure the coherent and effective management of processes, systems and people required to deliver and improve Zero Waste Scotland's services in line with the ambitions of the Corporate Plan. It will lead on the design, planning, and co-ordination of Zero Waste Scotland's operational services in line with current and future business needs.
This role will have a key focus on enabling and empowering circular solutions across the business landscape of Scotland. The role holder will have demonstrable ability to look ahead, imagine the future and captivate others, as they lead by example.
The successful candidates:
- Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as business, economics, environmental systems and processes.
- A strong and effective leader, with the ability to inspire, coach, motivate and develop others to achieve outcomes.
- Strong understanding of the ecosystem and the opportunities that exist in terms of business and local economic development.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to engage with and influence senior level stakeholders, ideally across both the public and private sector.
- Demonstrable success in building trust and effecting strong and effective relationships with partnerships,
- Evidence of strong analytical skills, specifically in terms of assessing potential business opportunities (financial, strategic & economic) through development of more circular practices within businesses.
- Good contract management skills and the ability to initiate and develop proposals.
- Excellent customer service skills and experience.
- Demonstrable experience of personal resilience during change and helping others to adapt quickly to form flexible and high performing teams.
- Ability to plan and allocate appropriate resources to deliver excellence.
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences.
- High levels of self-motivation and a strong personal commitment to the organisation.
- Able to keep abreast of developments related to the department and disseminate key information to colleagues.
