Finance Director
About the role
Smith Anderson is the UK’s leading paper bag manufacturer, operating from a modern production facility in Kirkcaldy, producing over 60 million paper bags per week for top tier customers in the pharmaceutical and fast-food markets. They count many top brands in their portfolio such as Greggs, Asda, Wagamama, McDonalds, Asda and Starbucks to name a few.
There has been an unprecedented growth in demand for paper bags and the business turnover has doubled in the last few years. Smith Anderson is one of Scotland’s oldest family owned companies, originally established in 1859 and now entering its 164th year.
This is an exciting time in the business, where orders from existing customers are growing as is demand from the home delivery market. Investment over the last year in new capital equipment will allow the business to meet this demand and the company continues to look at new machinery in the next 12 months.
We are looking for a dynamic, people-focussed Finance Director (FD) to join the business who will be responsible for developing and overseeing the Financial and Management Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology and Pension Management functions to ensure that the services provided support the delivery of the Strategic goals of the business. The FD will play a key role in the development and delivery of the Business Strategy. They will also take on Company Secretarial duties.
The FD will be able to provide support and advice to the family shareholders and some experience of working with a family business, while not essential, could be helpful. They will also work in close partnership with the rest of the Executive Team to deliver first class support and guidance.
You will have strong commercial awareness and experience of running a demanding finance function, ideally within a manufacturing environment. We’re looking for a strong communicator and team player, who can work closely across all functions in the business, introducing the Business Support functions as a true business partner within the organisation.
This is a wonderful opportunity to join a growing business, with a fantastic culture and strong values and to make a real difference in its future.
