Finance Director

Hutchinson Networks is an exciting and fast growth technology services business that has recently completed a successful private equity fundraise with YFM Equity Partners.

The organisation has three main revenue streams and growth areas:

• Infrastructure Services, including services based around Digital Transformation, Cyber Security and managed services.
• Global technology delivery and deployments, which are taking place with clients around the world
• Fabrix Cloud platform (managed by Hutchinson Networks but flexible and compatible with likes of AWS and Azure)

Growing organically through key partner and vendor relationships, as well as direct sales, Hutchinson Networks has worked with clients on projects in over 80 countries worldwide and has a client base that includes working through partners for organisations such as UBS, P&G and Apple as well as many of Scotland’s leading businesses.

With the YFM investment secured, to meet the continued demand and the resulting challenges and growth curve, it is a crucial time for the business and its management team, and as such a decision has been taken to recruit a Finance Director (FD).

The FD will be responsible for a value and growth focussed commercial finance remit with a view to freeing up Stephen to concentrate on broader operations and his strategic requirements and responsibilities alongside Paul Hutchinson (CEO), Stephen Heslop (COO) and the rest of the Board.

The successful candidate will be much more commercially minded than a ‘traditional accountant’ and will have strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with the gravitas and credibility to present to and partner with investors, the bank, possible clients and external stakeholders.

The Role:

The Finance Director role will be a Board member position and reporting into the CEO and largest shareholder.  The FD will have overall financial responsibility for the group and will have a significant Board voice on broader commercial matters.

This is a very exciting time for Hutchinson Networks and an excellent opportunity for the right individual to take on the role of becoming the company’s Finance Director and helping the company fully reach its growth potential. This individual will have first class numerical and analytical skills, and a strict attention to detail.

They will be an excellent communicator at all levels within an organisation and will have the mental agility, and pace in operations to be able to navigate and excel within a growing, fast-paced organisation. An inquisitive and entrepreneurial mind-set to allow them to review, challenge and innovate out with the finance function would also be advantageous as the business and their remit grows.

Future proofing the business, its management information and processes and helping shape and influence the broader business plans will be a crucial aid to the CEO, COO and the Board. Experience of fundraising / investor relations would be highly advantageous as this individual will be a key part of the future value proposition during potential growth activities (ie fundraising, possible shareholder exits etc).

We see this role every bit as much of a commercial job as a financial one. We do not want someone who sees this role as merely preparing the monthly accounts and board pack, important and necessary though that is, rather we want our FD to bring skills and experience to complement the existing executive management team who have considerable experience in technology/services development, exceptional client relationship and business development track records and entrepreneurial mind-sets.

It is therefore crucial to achieve the right personal and cultural fit with the business, and therefore an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a close-knit team, as well as focused and autonomously within their area, will be fundamental to this person’s success.
