Corporate Tax Director
About the role
Saffery Champness is a firm of chartered accountants and business advisers, with 80 Partners and over 700 staff across nine offices in the UK, plus offices in Ireland, Guernsey, Switzerland and the UAE. All Partners and staff work in a collegiate way with exceptional client service at the heart of our offering.
Saffery Champness is a member of Nexia International, a leading global network of independent accounting and consulting firms. This network connects the business to over 250 other member firms in 120 countries across the globe.
The Role
The business is looking to further strengthen its tax team in Edinburgh with the appointment of a corporate tax director to manage the delivery of corporation tax services to a growing portfolio of clients. The role is a director level role with a clear route to partner for the appropriate candidate.
The mix of work will be varied as the client base in the Edinburgh office is across a diverse range of business sectors in the Scottish market. There will also be opportunities to support the national corporation tax advisory team, and to work on UK-wide accounts as the Edinburgh partners have strong followings in their chosen markets, with clients spanning the UK.
Experience of dealing with large groups, owner-managed and fast growth entrepreneurial businesses, real estate (both development and investment businesses), landed estates and rural businesses, sports and entertainment, not-for-profit organisations, professional firms and consulting businesses, partnerships, non-resident landlords and non-resident capital gains tax would be beneficial.
Key responsibilities include:
Supervision and review of work undertaken by the tax team, including staff responsibility and work planning.
Leading tax advisory projects including in relation to capital gains, capital allowances, share schemes, corporate restructuring, property structuring, incentives advice covering capital allowances, R&D tax credits, and land remediation relief and tax support for corporate finance transactions.
Assisting in winning work by proactively exceeding expectations with existing clients and contributing to winning new clients by support the existing Edinburgh partners and the wider firm’s corporate strategy.
The successful candidate will be ACA/CA/CTA qualified and may come directly from an accountancy practice firm or currently be a key member of an in-house corporate tax team. He or she must display excellent technical skills and experience with a thorough understanding of UK corporate tax matters.
Importantly, the individual must be able to look at the tax issues of private companies both from the point of view of the company structure, and that of their owners. The Edinburgh office has larger corporates including PE backed and FTSE listed clients, and various fund and investment structures in its portfolio. It is a great opportunity for the right candidate to develop and lead the corporate tax offering in Edinburgh in conjunction with the local partners and the wider corporate tax partner and director group across the firm.
