Executive Director of Member Services & Engagement
About the role
The Law Society of Scotland is the professional body for Scottish solicitors. The current aim is to lead and support a successful and respected Scottish legal profession. Established in 1949 and financed by members, the Law Society not only regulates and represents all practicing solicitors in Scotland but also has an important duty towards the public interest.
The newly developed 5 year strategy for 2020 is to lead legal excellence through becoming a world class professional body. In order to help deliver this strategy and vision for 2020, The Law Society is looking to appoint an Executive Director of Member Services & Engagement.
This is a new role reporting to the Chief Executive and will involve delivery of the Society’s strategic aims and objectives including the design, development and selling of services which are tailored to existing members’ needs and to drive new categories of membership, increasing commercial revenue both in the UK and internationally.
The planned growth of the Society and their clear focus on analysing the expectations of members to ensure that they are constantly adapting to meet new demands as a service provider gives this role very compelling features and, as such, is a very attractive opportunity. This new role represents a unique opportunity to contribute to the ongoing transformation of a successful and well respected professional association with further potential.
We are looking for candidates with a strong track record in delivery of membership or commercial services and of demonstrable growth in that environment. A strong leader with a commercial/sales focus and experience of working closely with a Board will be required. Experience in developing digital based services would also be a strong advantage.
Candidates could come from a membership driven organisation, from a professional services background such as financial services, accountancy or law practice where they have been working in a Commercial or Business Development capacity.
