Sharing Expertise and Building Connections: Home-Start Edinburgh

This week, our Events Lead, Laura, visited Home-Start Edinburgh as part of her volunteering day that each of our team have every year to spend with a charity of their choice. She met with Hazel, the Community Engagement Coordinator, and they spent a productive half-day where Laura shared her experience in the events industry and discussed some of the synergies with Hazel’s role at Home-Start.
Their conversation was filled with insights, ideas, and experiences. They explored various tools and strategies that could enhance the work being done at Home-Start, focusing on community engagement and event planning. Together, Laura and Hazel brainstormed ways to improve community outreach, organise successful events, and create a more engaging environment for the families they support. It was rewarding to see how Laura’s background and experience could contribute to such a meaningful cause and we are excited about the potential impact of their collaboration.
Home-Start Edinburgh is our chosen charity to support for the year. They are a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support, helping families with young children through challenging times. Their volunteers visit families weekly for a couple of hours in their own homes, offering non-judgemental practical and emotional support. This helps build the family’s confidence and ability to cope with various challenges, such as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability, or general parenting struggles. They also run regular parent and children groups and arrange social events for referred families.
At FWB, we are deeply committed to giving back to the local community. Supporting Home-Start Edinburgh is a key part of this commitment. In addition to Laura’s visit, we are supporting Home-Start Edinburgh with our staff volunteering at their community events and providing board-level training. Volunteering at Home-Start Edinburgh allows us to give back to the community and reinforces the importance of sharing knowledge and working together to achieve common goals. We look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting Home-Start in their mission to make a positive difference in the lives of families.
