Managing Director
The Opportunity
Hamilton and Kinneil Estates, including Lennoxlove House near Haddington, is the home of the Duke of Hamilton. The estate incorporates a number of limited companies that serve to manage this working estate, its assets and operations as a fully sustainable business. Estate operations include residential and commercial property, rural lettings, mixed farming, mineral lordships, retail and property development.
Key responsibilities
The Managing Director will oversee all aspects of the estate’s operations and outsourced activities, leading the team and driving its overall success ensuring its long-term sustainability. Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the estate’s strategic vision and goals, working closely with the board of directors and other key stakeholders. Provide strong leadership and guidance to the estate’s management team.
- Financial Management: Manage the estate’s finances, including budgeting, financial planning, and monitoring financial performance. Ensure the estate operates within budgetary constraints and achieves financial targets.
- Property Management: Oversee the management and maintenance of the estate’s properties, including residential, commercial, and agricultural properties. Ensure that properties are well-maintained, meet regulatory requirements, and provide a high standard of living and working environment.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities to enhance the estate’s revenue streams. Develop and maintain relationships with key partners, stakeholders, and potential investors.
- Staff Management: Lead and manage a diverse team of employees, including hiring, training, and performance management. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders. Represent the estate in public forums and engage in community outreach initiatives.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Identify and mitigate risks that may impact the estate’s operations or reputation.
- Conservation and Sustainability: Promote and implement sustainable practices across the estate, including environmental conservation, energy efficiency, and waste management.
- Marketing and External Relations: Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote the estate’s offerings and attract visitors and tenants. Manage public relations activities and maintain a positive brand image for the estate.
- Reporting and Communication: Provide regular reports to the board of directors, trustees and other stakeholders on the estate’s performance, financials, and key initiatives. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment.
The Managing Director will set the tone for the estate and ensure that the family’s vision is at the forefront of all decision-making. They will be expected to familiarise themselves with all aspects of the business, including visits to operational sites and participation at events and functions. The leadership of the Managing Director will ensure the continued success of the estate and its sustainability for future generations.
