About the role
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) is a highly influential professional body with global reach and influence. It is also one of the oldest and most established. It is an educator, regulator and thought leader and its 21,000 members represent a powerful business network. Indeed around 50% of members work in business, many as CEO’s, Chair’s and CFO’s of the world’s best known companies.
This is an opportunity to play a key part in the strategic affairs of the ICAS Council in upholding the integrity and standing of the chartered accountancy profession in the interests of society and the membership.
There are four non-accountant lay members serving on the ruling Council and their role is to participate in Council deliberations on all matters of policy, finance and other relevant issues, to participate in or lead such other boards or working parties/groups as the Council may determine (this role will include Chairing the Remuneration Committee) and to report annually to ICAS’ AGM on the performance of the Council, indicating whether it has acted in the public interest.
The public interest member vacancy arises in April 2018 and applications are invited from persons with a commitment to safeguarding the public interest. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and analytical skills, sound judgement and the ability to work constructively as part of a team. Successful candidates are likely to have management or executive level experience and could come from the public, private or voluntary sectors
Appointments are made for a four year term. Public Interest members are expected to devote around 20 to 30 days per year to ICAS business and are entitled to an annual honorarium payment. Interviews will take place on 13 March 2018.
